Brendan and Bailey O’Leary’s “True Respite” innovates quickly to help microbreweries survive COVID-19 event

Brendan and Bailey O’Leary of True Respite Brewing Company

A few years ago, alumnus Brendan O’Leary and his wife Bailey founded True Respite Brewing Company in Maryland. Anticipating some changes in Maryland’s rules for distributing alcohol during the current period of restrictions on business, they listened to another alumnus, software engineer Brian O’Connor, and worked with him to create an on-line ordering platform and were ready not only to sell their own product locally but to offer other small breweries the same ability. In short order, the BierMi platform was born. (Web version here.)

“In the first six weeks of operation, we’ve processed over $1 million in transactions for more than 100 breweries, wineries, and distilleries in more than two dozen states,” said Brendan.

Their quick grasp of the opportunity and execution of a way to provide the service as been featured in Fast Company magazine and in the Baltimore Biz Journal!
